Black dragons are very powerful monsters, and like all other dragons, an anti-dragon shield or equivalent or Antifire potion is recommended in order for the player to protect themselves from their dragonfire. They are the most powerful standard chromatic dragon. They are not as popular a monster to train on as the weaker blue dragon, but their guaranteed drops, black dragonhide and dragon bones, are some of the most valuable guaranteed drops of all monsters. They are also hunted for the draconic visage.

Strategy
As with all dragons, an anti-dragon shield or a dragonfire shield is essential when fighting them with Melee. Without one, the player may be hit extremely hard by dragonfire.
As safespots are available in all of their locations, Ranged is a common method to kill them, since they are weak to Ranged like many dragons.
If a player wishes to use melee, the best method is to use the Zamorakian hasta as it has the highest stab bonus in the game and allows them to equip an Anti-dragon shield at the same time.
