The dragon pickaxe was released with the Wilderness Rejuvenation on 13 March 2014. It is dropped by all the Wilderness bosses (not demi-bosses). The King Black Dragon, while not technically in the Wilderness, also drops the dragon pickaxe, but has a much rarer rate for it. It is the strongest and fastest pickaxe in-game.
The dragon pickaxe also has a special attack, which temporarily boosts the player's Mining level by 3 (you will need to have 60 Attack to utilize this special).

A player wielding the dragon pickaxe.
The infernal pickaxe will grant the player a 1/3 chance to smelt ores for smithing experience whilst mining. The infernal pickaxe will be able to smelt 5,000 ores before degrading, requiring another smouldering stone or dragon pickaxe to charge it.
Players can also use a dragon pickaxe upgrade kit, obtained from the Bounty Hunter Store, to cosmetically enhance their dragon pickaxes, creating a dragon pickaxe (or). This only alters its appearance, and makes the pickaxe untradeable. The process can be reverted, but the kit will not be retained.

- When the special attack is used, your character will say "Smashing!". This may be a reference to the catchphrase of the fiction character Nigel Thornberry.
