Sandstone rocks are a type of rock found only in the Desert Quarry south of Bandit Camp in the Kharidian Desert. This area is subject to desert heat, so players mining here need waterskins or the Desert amulet 4 to avoid taking damage.

Sandstone respawns quickly, so a player can mine continuously at a group of only three to four rocks. When sandstone is mined, the player randomly receives one of the four sizes of sandstone blocks. When wearing Varrock armour and the armour effect activates, the size of the second block of sandstone will be the same as the first block.

Sandstone is tradeable and can be sold on the Grand Exchange, but it is in very low demand because it currently has no known use in RuneScape other than in the quest Enakhra's Lament to make part of Lazim's statue.

A player must have a Mining level of 35 or greater to mine sandstone, which yields the following experience depending on the size the sandstone block mined shown in the table below.

Size XP Examine text
Sandstone (1kg) 1 kg 30 A tiny chunk of sandstone.
Sandstone (2kg) 2 kg 40 A small chunk of sandstone.
Sandstone (5kg) 5 kg 50 A medium-sized chunk of sandstone.
Sandstone (10kg) 10 kg 60 A large chunk of sandstone.
